Peel Youth Village (PYV) is a residence for youth who do not have permanent housing.PYV provides safe, stable, transitional housing and support services for youth, 16 to 30 years of age.
As many as 48 youth occupy PYV with support from staff who are onsite 24-7, 365 days a year. PYV offers recreation and leisure activities to residents and the surrounding Acorn community. The 1999 Report from the Peel Regional Task Force on Homelessness identified growing numbers of homeless youth and need for supports, and recommended:
Creating a strategy to reduce homelessness in Peels youth
Establishing links between agencies assisting homeless youths that could lead to development of a network
Developing homelessness prevention services for youth, including housing
As many as 48 youth, 16 to 30 years of age, live at Peel Youth Village (PYV). Staff are onsite 24-7, 365 days a year. Youth from diverse backgrounds are referred to PYV by staff from recognized social service, educational or health care agencies in Peel. Potential residents complete an application process to determine the suitability of the program to their needs. Residents may stay for up to one year.
